I was really honored when my nephew wrote about me for a class assignment of his. He had to write a paper called “My Inspiration” and my nephew picked me to write about. I can not think of a cooler, nicer thing than that. Here is the paper he wrote.
My Inspiration
My uncle, Don Foley, is an actor and a guitar player. This is a story about a memorable time I had with him. It occurred when I was doing a play, Alice in Wonderland, in my 6th grade year in Elementary II.
I remember going home one day and just feeling like I had done horrible and I was going to ask if I could have a different part in the play. I remember him coming down to my house and talking to me about acting. He told me about what it felt like to be on stage and to be applauded for. At that point, I still didn’t want to play the part. I then worked for an hour or two on memorizing lines.
I remember weeks later not wanting to do the play, and waiting behind the large red curtain squished up next to my friend silently. I remember stepping onto the stage and seeing him looking straight at me with a slight grin creeping across his face. As I looked out at the rest of the faces, I felt adrenaline rushing though me. I stepped up feeling great and I stepped out and just let my lines flow. I remember storming off the stage (acting) and hearing the applause behind me and feeling wonderful. Ever since that play, I have loved acting and will hopefully start acting more often with the help of my uncle.
My nephew really rocked during that play and I am hoping he keeps it up. He is one of those lucky people who quickly gets good at anything he puts his attention on. A very cool vision of mine is to have him act in a movie with me some day.
‘Tis all for now!
Wow, I have been very lax as of late on my posts. For the first year and a half of my blog I was updating every 3 to 6 days, but lately it has been every 10 to 20 days. I apologize to my frequent readers for that. The reason for this can be summed up in one 3 letter word: SAG. Before I was a union actor I was acting every other weekend; I was always busy. But the golden rule of SAG is that you are not allowed to do non-union gigs. This is called “Rule One” and is the most important rule in the union. In the Boston area 95% of the work is non-union. So now I have a new work curve to get used to as I am only getting gigs every other month or so now. Another down side is that all my old network of contacts is almost useless since these people are mostly non-union filmmakers. It is like I am starting all over again from scratch. The plus side of this is that some of the filmmakers I have worked with are starting to slowly switch to being union producers as they become bigger players, and also my chances of getting bigger and better jobs has increased now that I am a union actor. So although it kind of sucks right now and I have less acting things to write about I do feel that as I build my new SAG network it will be a better and more lucrative network then the large non-union network I once had. Gee how many times can I say network in one sentence? I am setting a goal for myself to find acting releating things to write about every 7-10 days even if the gigs are not rolling in right now.
On to the updates…
I am very happy to report that I have a new credit on the IMDB. This makes ten so far. Click the yellow ticket to see my profile. The movie credit is for my roles in the “Miskatonic Acid Test”. This movie was a lot of fun and very important to me because it mixes two genres that I love very much. It mixes Lovecraftian horror and the psychedelic movement of the 60’s. I had heard about this movie being made on the Internet and emailed the director/producer and begged them for a small role. I ended up getting two roles in the movie and one role was very cool because I played the man who introduces the movie, much like Criswell from Tim Burton’s “Ed Wood” or like Alfred Hitchcock used to do for his movies. The movie is now selling its very cool psychedelic sound track on its website here.
Also, I am very happy to report that my good friend William DeCoff is going to be in another movie with me in January. I talked about the movie in an earlier post and it is called “Paulie”. I play the lead role of Paulie and William will be playing the character Lou that is the straight man role to my funny man role. I met William on the set of movie 4 years ago, and he has been a good friend ever since. This will be the fifth movie we have acted in together. I am looking forward to the shoot.
Also this week my website was down most of the time do to a DDoS attack at my host server. Very annoying!
‘Tis all for now.
