World Premiere Screening of Pretty Dead Things!

Filed under: Acting Journey — Don @ 3:33 pm

The Columbus Theater (Photo courtesy of Gerry DeLuca)Tonight at the historic Columbus Theater in Providence, Rhode Island the movie Pretty Dead Things will have its world premiere screening. I am super excited about the screening because I get to see the movie in its entirety for the first time. Also I get to see all the cast and crew again, and they are fun people to hang out with. I got about 7 or 8 old friends showing up, and one new friend who is a fellow blogger named Ricardo who is not only a blogger but a writer, and more importantly a screenplay writer. I hope some day I get to work in a film he writes, that would be sweet! Should be a blast!

Another new trailer!

Filed under: Acting Journey — Don @ 5:02 pm

Hey, its been a banner couple of weeks for trailers of movies I have worked in. This new trailer is for the movie “The Miskatonic Acid Test”. This movie is really cool, it is a horror movie that takes place in 1969 during the psychedelic music craze. It is like the Blair Witch Project meets Woodstock the documentary. Here is the official blurb from the website:

In 1969 a group of students at Miskatonic University in witch-haunted Arkham, Massachusetts decided to emulate the West Coast and put on their own sort of “happening”, where “music and atmosphere could combine to create an alteration of consciousness”, with the clandestine help of a little LSD. Or maybe a lot. However, it is said that one should be very careful when experimenting with the nether regions of consciousness, particularly when one’s psychedelic event is occurring under the watchful eye of a philosophy professor who specializes in the study of Evil, and most particularly when that selfsame professor has access to the darker realms of the Miskatonic University library, where reside ancient tomes that should never be read under any circumstances, especially not aloud, and especially not in front of a crowd, and most especially not in front of a crowd that is under the effects of mind-altering drugs…

I am a huge fan of the writings of H.P. Lovecraft from which this movie is inspired. Also, I am a huge fan of the 60’s psychedelic culture and music, so this movie was perfect for me. I had heard about this movie after it had already been cast and after production had already started. I was bummed about that but figured I would try to be involved anyway. So I emailed the director and practically begged him to give me at the very least a small cameo role. I explained to him how this movie brings together two very cool subjects I love, and that it would be the coolest thing ever to be on in it. He agreed and did me one better than I had hoped; he allowed me to be the man who introduces the movie, very much like Criswell did for Ed Wood, and William Castle and Alfred Hitchcock did for them selves. You know like “This movie you are about to see…” type of stuff; you can see like 1 second of itin the trailer. I am looking forward to seeing the whole thing on the big screen.

Autograph Signing Tonight!

Filed under: Acting Journey — Don @ 11:53 am

QuillTonight I go down to Providence, RI to the Vampires Ball where the trailer of Pretty Dead Things will be playing and the cast will be signing autographs on posters and lobby cards. I have had the experience once of signing autographs before and it was weird and fun all at once. It seems so strange to sit her and practice signing my name today, not sure what other job would have you doing that. You see my signature is unreadable, so I decided to come up with a “stage” signature that people can actually read. At the last signing I was at for the movie Swink (read about that here) I was signing stuff with my normal signature, but felt bad about it because know one would be able to know who signed it. It was like some rogue doctor was running around signing posters with his god awful prescription signature; my penmanship is that bad. So here I am today practicing a new signature that is readable and more importantly consistent and since my cursive is so bad, my “stage” signature is in ah… what is the opposite of cursive called? Non-cursive? Block letters? Print?

Anyway, it should be fun tonight.

Commentary Track!

Filed under: Acting Journey — Don @ 12:09 am

MicrophoneWell, I had another one of those acting “Firsts” that I always go on about. I was just invited down to Rhode Island to be one of the actors on the commentary track for the US DVD release of Creature from the Hillbilly Lagoon (formerly named Seepage!). I drove down with my acting buddy and good friend William DeCoff. There we met with Richard Griffin (the director) and Ted Marr (the producer) where we sat down and watched the movie and just talked and talked and talked. It is a pretty tough thing to fill an hour and a half with dialog, but we did it. I must say I definitely spoke the least during the movie as I only had a small part in this one and did not know too much about the behind the scenes goings on. I did get involved here and there, and had some things to say on and off. It was a blast and a great honor, and I hope I get to be involved on the Pretty Dead Things commentary when that comes out as I had a much bigger role in that movie and would have more to talk about. Look for Creature from the Hillbilly Lagoon at your local Blockbuster, Bestbuy, or on-line at Amazon.com and Netflix in Q1 2007. To see my scene from this movie go here.

Here are some other “Firsts” in my Acting Journey: 1 2 3

Hey, I almost forgot! I had another “First” tonight too! Richard let me hear my characters theme music for the upcoming Pretty Dead Things. In movies some characters have their own theme music that plays every time you see them. I have never up to this date had a character with his own theme music! My character is called Moe Blue and he is a sleazy porn producer and the music fits him perfectly. This was sweet!

Here is a picture of the character:

New Trailers!

Filed under: Acting Journey — Don @ 6:28 pm

Here are some new movie trailers for films I have acted in. Both are Scorpio Films Productions movies, and both are in the genre of Horror-Comedy. The first is called Pretty Dead Things and that will be having its world premiere screening at the end of the month, and the other is Creature from the Hillbilly Lagoon (formerly known as Seepage!) and is being nationally distributed to DVD in early 2007 by EI Cinema under its Shock-O-Rama line of movies. Also Hillbilly Lagoon just won the best Genre Cross-Over award the Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival in Providence, RI. Enjoy!

Dunkin’ Donuts® Commercial

Filed under: Acting Journey — Don @ 4:35 pm

Dunkin' Donuts®Well, I was super psyched today because I was invited to audition for background extra role for a national Dunkin’ Donuts commercial. Nationally aired commercials pay a lot of money, even for the background extras. For SAG members the production company has to “buy you out” in order to not pay royalties and stuff. And buying out is basically your days pay times three. One of my friends did a commercial for Dunkin and received $600 dollars for two hours work; very nice! If you get a speaking role you get lots of residual pay after the normal days pay so it is very lucrative. I was invited to the audition by Maura Tighe Casting, one the “Big Four” casting companies in northern New England. The “Big Four” are Maura Tighe Casting, Boston Casting and CP Casting which are all in Boston, and LDI Casting which is in Rhode Island. These casting companies are the “Gate Keepers” of all the big commercial and major production roles in the area. As a Union New England actor it is imperative to get listed with these casting companies and to keep them reminded that you are out there ready to work. And that reminds me I have to send out a thank you letter and four postcards today! :)

Wish me luck!
