Ouch!

Filed under: Acting Journey — Don @ 8:53 pm

So, I was on this film shoot this Sunday and I almost knocked my self out. Here is the story. We were filming the movie Underground all day. The last scene of the day was around 9:30pm just after a short thunderstorm. We were filming in this alley in Central Square, Cambridge, MA. So the scene is that myself, an inept undercover cop posing as a gangsta rapper, and my inept criminal gang member accost the main lead of the movie. The scene is about 3-4 minutes long and it is where the main lead kicks are ass and gets the info he needs. We are on the third take, and the director decides to do it as one long take using a hand held camera to give it that gritty street feel. So not unlike theater, we must get through it with out stopping. So we are in the middle of the scene and all is going well. There are some on-lookers there who had heard us and stopped to watch. The main character shoves, me and I spin and go flying, but unknown to me we had shifted somewhat and right behind me was a huge metal post. Blam! I face plant right on the post. I stagger backwards, and am reeling in pain. Real Pain!! I spin around holding my head, my vision blurry, and I see the main lead finishing the other actor and he turns to get the info from me. My, the show must go on, instinct kicks in and I finish the scene. The director yells cut, and our little growing group of on-lookers applauds; I yell owwwww!!!!! Which I had been wanting to do since I hit the post. I am laughing and cursing, and everyone in the cast and crew where wondering what was so funny and why I was still holding my head. I tell them to watch the scene again on the monitor. We do, and, oh man, it is funny! It looks like The Three Stooges! Blam!!!! stagger, stagger, reel, almost fall over. Best acting I have ever done. Today I have a lump on my forehead the size of Texas.

The project that must not be named!

Filed under: Acting Journey — Don @ 12:08 am

The project which must not be named is going well and moving forward. I can only talk about it in general terms because I signed an NDA and I cannot reveal details. What I can say is that this project is a privately funded TV Pilot that follows the basic sitcom format. I am playing what is called in the industry a “series regular”, meaning I am one of the main characters who will be in every episode. Most sitcoms have that one really whacky character, like Seinfeld’s Kramer, and Cheer’s Woody, and so on. In this show I am that whacky guy. I do a lot of physical comedy and have some very funny lines. So far the show is going good, and is now completely cast. We are currently moving into rehearsal stage, and will probably be shooting in early 2007; I can’t wait!

Director Richard Griffin to appear at HorrorFind Weekend!

Filed under: Acting Journey — Don @ 11:20 pm

Richard GriffinDirector Richard Griffin has been asked to be a celebrity guest at the HorrorFind Weekend in Baltimore.  Some other heavy hitters at the weekend are Rutger Hauer, George Romero, and Lloyd Kaufman of Troma Films. To see all the Celebs in attendance go to the HorrorFind Celeb Page.

I had the great pleasure of acting in two movies written and directed by Richard Griffin.  He is a great director and a blast to work for.  I hear a rumor he is bringing Seepage! with him to show at the event.  He is being brought to the event by one of the events sponsors EiCinema who distributes many of Richards films.  One note is that Seepage! will be renamed to “Creature from the Hillbilly Lagoon” when released nation-wide in early 2007.

Myspace Film and new trailer!

Filed under: Acting Journey — Don @ 4:56 pm

A couple of quick notes:

MYSPACE FILMI now have a new profile on myspace film. I think myspace, besides having a really bad name for predators, can be a very useful marketing tool. For example I used the search tool to find all the filmmakers in 100 miles of me. It turned up 1300 myspace film profiles which I am currently in the process of inviting all them to be on my friends list; I am about a 3rd of the way through. Anyway, when I have a new thing happening I can do a bulletin that all the filmmakers and fans in my friends list will get. This seems like a good tool to get my presence known by 1300 producers/director types in my area. Please feel free to stop by my site (http://myspace.com/donaldcfoley) and add yourself to my friends list. I would be honored to have you.

New Trailer!

I was in a fantasy/sci-fi movie last summer down in Rhode Island. The movie is called “The Forest of Black Fathom”. This teaser trailer was just released by the director of the movie. Check it out and see if you can spot me. It is very fast, but you can see me twice.

Book of the Month (August 2006)

Headshot Secrets RevealedBook of the Month (August 2006)

This month the ‘Book of the Month’ is Bob Fraser’s “Headshots Secrets Revealed”. This book is absolutely a must have for any actor seriously pursuing a career in the biz. It is designed to lead you to that perfect headshot that stops the viewer in their tracks and makes them want to know more about you. Most headshots end up in the circular file, but the ones that demand attention are the ones that get the calls. This ebook is very detailed, and guides you through the process easily from start to finish. I found the book very clear and easy to understand. It is very evident that Bob knows what he is talking about and that with his guidance you will get great headshots. I am very happy with the results of my last photo session, and I am looking forward to getting even better skill with this art as I practice the techniques this book has taught me. Bob is doing the acting community a great service by making this information affordable and available.

‘Tis all for now.
