First of my 2006 milestones met!

Filed under: Acting Journey — Don @ 1:22 am

MilestoneBack in the beginning of this year I had posted some milestones that I hoped to achieve during the coming year. I am happy to report that the first of these milestones has now been met. The milestone I am referring to was my wish to be cast in a principal role in a film with a $100k+ budget or more. A principal role basically means a speaking role. In the union there are different pay rates depending on the size of the role, but by rule of thumb, if you have dialog you are a principal player. If not you are an extra or background player. I had a feeling the movie “Elevator Chasers” would meet that milestone but I wanted to be sure before I posted this entry. I sent an email to the director and he let me know that this fully funded project weighs in at around roughly $130K. The role I have in this movie is that of “Drunken Man” and I have about 6 or 7 lines and some fun physical comedy moments. This will most likely be completed in one day of shooting at one location; I can’t wait. The funny thing is that when I posted that milestone I was thinking I would meet that goal with a movie called “A means to an end” which is being produced by the same company; OxRock Productions. Unfortunately funding has not come in for that project yet and it is delayed indefinitely. I am hoping that they get funding because the role I was cast in will be a challenging one for me and I really loved the script.

‘Tis all for now.

  1. Don this is rolling thunder. Good work! It’s always a milestone getting a principle role in a film. I never made it that far but I will live vicariously through your experience. Keep it up.

  3. Awesome, Don! I need to start making milestones like this. Kind of fun to set some specific goals and then hit them. . .

  4. Thanks for the nice comments folks. Chris I think it is a great tool to try and create a crystal clear vision of what you want and then set milestones so that you can see how far along you are towards that final destination. I feel like I started to achieve better results when I had this structure in place. It is like you are inviting your subconscious to come along for the ride and to help you make decisions.

  7. […] That movie called Elevator Chasers that I was very excited about was unfortunately put on hold for now. At the eleventh hour the Director, Arnon Shorr, and Producer, Kerreanna DiMauro, had decided that they could not make the film under the current circumstances. On the last working day before production was about to begin they decided the artistic differences between what they wanted to make and what the people funding the project wanted to make was not the same thing. I applaud Arnon and Kerreanna for not selling out, a lot of money was on the line, but they wanted to make sure the movie they were going to produce was something they could believe in. I have full trust in them and am glad they did the right thing. So, for now they are off to find a different source of money to fund the film. It could take some time; I don’t expect I will be acting in this film until the fall at least, maybe longer. This was a disappointment because , as I posted previously, this movie was going to be my first movie with a budget over $100K in which I was cast in a speaking role. Most of the movies in which I had a speaking role were made for less than $30K. Oh well, I know the movie will be made; it is just a matter of time. […]

  8. […] I had set 4 goals for 2006 here and managed to hit all four, but some did not work out as I imagined they would and I have decided that my goals for 2007 will have to be worded more clearly so that my intentions are better understood by my subconscious and the universe. Yes I am one of “those” people who refer to god as the universe and believe that all energy in the universe maybe a living intelligence. I say maybe because I am not entirely sure what I believe as sometimes I am very spiritual and others I am very atheist. Today I am on the more spiritual side of the ledger. But I digress! As I was saying some of the goals I achieved this year did not turn out exactly how I planned. The first goal which was to get my SAG card did pretty much happen just as I planned it. The second goal to be cast in a principal role (meaning speaking) in a movie with a budget over 100K also happened, but the movie was never made. I was picked and cast for the role, but the director and the people with money could not see eye to eye and the project collapsed. So I was cast, but I did not actually work in the film. The third goal was to be cast in a principal role in a movie that gets screened at Sundance or Cannes film festival. Well I did have one movie that will playing at Cannes, but what I did not know was that there are two festivals at Cannes. One that is the very prestigious festival I was thinking about that has a very stringent selection process and another where you just need to pay the fee and you can show your movie. I was thinking of the fist of these when I set the goal, but I did get a movie in at the other easy to get into Cannes festival. I need to be more specific see! The fourth goal was to get a written review of one of my movies and for myself to be mentioned and a fellow blogger named Ricardo did write a review of one of my movies and mentioned me in his review. I was very excited and honored about that and glad he came to see my movie, but I was kind of thinking of an online magazine or a printed newspaper or magazine when I was setting the goal. Don’t get me wrong though I am super pleased he came to see my movie and that he took the time to write a nice review. So as you can see when I set my goals and milestones for 2007 I need to be very clear this time. […]
