Swink!

Filed under: Acting Journey — Don @ 3:30 pm

SWINK!I am very excited that the movie Swink is now done and going to be screened on April 15th, 2006 at the Kendall Square Cinemas in Cambridge, MA. This movie is special for me because it was the first time that I ever got paid to act; oh what a feeling. The cast and crew of this movie was a cool bunch of people to work with. Chris Russell who wrote and directed the movie had a great direction style that I appreciated very much. When he helped me out in my toughest scene which was my death scene I felt the direction he gave brought out the very best performance that I was capable of at the time. I am hoping that I get to work with him again in his future movies. There is a trailer for the movie at the official SWINK website. After filming the movie Chris wrote me a nice email and I asked him if I could add it to my testimonial page. You can view it here.

‘Tis all for now.

  1. I love it when directors take the time to give you feedback about working with you. It’s so nice to hear. Especially if it’s constructive. It really helps an actor reinforce that they are on the right path.

  2. I agree. The directors that take even a few quick moments to work with you make the best directors. I remember working with some directors that did not understand the way actors work and treated them like cattle. They would just shout things like you were an obstacle or hindrence. The result is an inhibited performance. Swink looks very pulp. I like that.

  3. Thanks. It is a great thing when you work with an “Actor’s Director”, someone who “gets it” and appreciates you and wants the best from you and wants the best film possible. Chris the Director of Swink was just that.

Glad you liked the trailer. I think they are going to get some better higher rez trailers on there soon. I am so looking forward to that screening.

  4. The screening will be a rush I’m sure. I always had a hard time watching myself. It would always lead me to second guessing and agonizing. I was my own worst critic.

  5. Yeah, I hear you Ricardo. I had a hard time at first with watching myself also. Half the stuff I picked myself apart on was not even acting related. But I knew that it was going to be a great tool to learn with, so after forcing myself to watch my performances I started to get used to it. It took a year and half before I could watch it objectively, like I am watching and critiquing someone else’s performance. Now I love it. Great learning tool.

  6. Agreed. It works for professional ball players so it should definately work for acting.

  8. […] Ok, so this is another first for me. I appear in a fully painted movie poster. This actually happened quite a while ago, but I did not have a chance to scan in the image till now. This beautiful poster was painted for the Swink movie premier that took place back in April 2006 at the Kendall Square Cinemas in Cambridge, MA. I had a pretty small role in the movie only appearing in an about 5 scenes, but my character was also mentioned by other characters in 3 or 4 other scenes so I had a decent presence in the film. I played the creepy lackey of the mob underboss who was trying to take control of the mob, while the big boss was away on vacation. You can see me placed behind the underboss, my boss, just below the handle of the gun. You can click the poster to see a bigger image.  I must say that it feels pretty cool knowing that an artist has rendered your image in paint for a movie poster. Another cool thing is that I signed a bunch of these posters at the premier, a new and fun experience. […]
