American Experience
A few weeks ago I had this really cool gig for the PBS history show called “American Experience” where I played a 1940’s scientist. I am posting this entry now because I wanted to wait until I got some photos from the set to add to the post. I just got those today and they look pretty cool. One of the cool things about acting is that you get to see what you might look like in different social roles or different time periods. This time I got to see my self as a 1940’s science geek.

This episode of the American Experience was about the 30 year biological weapons program that America entered into in 1942; Nixon nixed it in 1972. The name of the episode is “The Living Weapon” and will air on PBS on February 5th at 9pm.; my birthday! The scene was 3 scientists meet with 2 military men in a top secret meeting at the pentagon to discuss the possibility of creating a biological warfare program. Here is a picture of that scene.

This shoot was really fun because they gave us our goals and told us a little about what was going on, and then they filmed us improvising the scene; I was told that my character was against the program. In the show there will be a narrator explaining what was happening at the time over the scene, so they did not record any audio. I think this could bring me some nice exposure, although I was not in the best spot for that as I think I was mostly in profile for the entire shoot. I look forward to seeing it.
‘Tis all for now.
Cool stuff!

Very cool. PBS stuff is great, and if it’s any good, it will probably make the circuit of every PBS station in the country.

I meant to reply to this sooner. I’ve been busy. Nice pictures. You look very classy here. I actually like the look. This character looks good on you. He looks a bit…wealthy, stuborn and smart.

Thanks folks, and thanks Marsha for the nice compliments on the picture. I felt a bit classy, wealthy and stuborn too, so glad it reads on film.

I’m really looking forward to seeing this. I like the topic. I sometimes watch this show anyway. It will be great to see you in it. Mostly I get sucked into the reenactments and think they are the real people. Sometimes I wonder where do these people come from now I know.

[…] Well, I turned 44 on Monday and I had a nice birthday present. The “Living Weapon” which is an episode of the PBS program “American Experience” aired on my birthday and I was in it. I am only visible for about 3 seconds but it was cool because I love the history shows that are on PBS and the History Channel and I was glad to play a small part. I have a post about the show here and in a couple of weeks the full show will be available on-line here if you want to see it. I am appear in the first five minutes so don’t blink to early. Another nice present was that we had the first shooting day for “Paulie”. My good buddy William DeCoff also plays a leading role in the movie and it was fun day being able to work with him again. I still have another couple days shoot left on this project and I am looking forward to it. Lastly in a post back in August of 2006 I talked about hitting my head on a post during a shoot. The director sent me the clip and I turned it into an animated gif file. I hope you find it as amusing as I do. You can read about the experience by clicking here. […]
